They are everlasting, just as ancient books are. Just as reading each time delivers nutrients to the soul, tasting food each time talks with the entire history of human civilization.

《海边的卡夫卡》讲述了主人公卡夫卡的成长史。他幼年时被母亲抛弃,又被父亲诅咒,他决心“成为世界上最顽强的十五岁少年”。本书延续了村上春树一贯的虚构的故事设定,却又深刻地投射出现实社会的影子。村上春树说,“卡夫卡让我们领教了这个世界是何等凶顽,同时又得知世界也可以变得温存和美好。”

Kafka on the Shore tells the story of Kafka's growth. He was abandoned by his mother when he was a child and cursed by his father, so he was determined to "become the toughest 15-year-old boy in the world". The book is a continuation of Haruki Murakami's fictionalized story setting, but it also casts a deep shadow on the real society. Mr. Murakami said, "kafka has taught us how fierce the world is, while at the same time let us know that the world can be warm and beautiful."
